Whiteside County Barn Tour July 12-13
It’s no coincidence the Whiteside County Barn Tour is the same weekend as the Rock Falls Chamber’s Summer Cookout on July 12-13. It was planned that way.
Throughout the Midwest, historians are lamenting the disappearance of barns. The sentimental response to the plight of dying barns goes beyond the rustic appeal of the architecture. A barn is the most easily identifiable feature of early American farms. As such, it is symbolic of a way of life rapidly disappearing from the American landscape.
Now, on this July weekend, people can view 10 historically unique barns located in northeast Whiteside County. Sponsored by the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and a dedicated group of individuals, this Barn Tour includes a trail through the northeastern portion of the county for only $15 per vehicle and includes a booklet and a tour map. Admission is valid both days.
A motor coach is also available but a minimum of 25 people need to sign up. This two-day tour is $80 per person and includes two lunches, admission to Sandy Pine Elk Farm and motor coach service. Overnight stay is additional.
